A Knife by Shosui Takeda

The third-generation master blacksmith Shosui Takeda was born and raised in Niimi, Okayama in Japan. After graduating from a university and working in Tokyo, he returned to his hometown to succeed his father as a blacksmith. Since 1985 he has strived and studied to produce the very best hand-forged blades and tools. His good old-fashioned hard work makes for one-of-a-kind knives.

I picked up this knife from another dealer at the show last week. He did not know who the maker was and kept calling it a sushi knife. I really loved the design and shape and so I bought it.

After getting it home I took several photos:

I sent the photo of the Kanji to Sensei Makoto Kamiya who translated the name for me.

Looking up the name on the web I found Shosui Takeda a blacksmith in Japan. Emailing him all the photos I asked him if he was the original maker of the knife.

He kindly responded the next day:

Hello,

Yes, I forged and made this blade and Mr.Moriya made the handle and sheath.
It is one of a kind.
Enjoy using it!

Best Regards,
Shosui  Takeda
